Vascular structure versus function: is endothelial dysfunction of independent prognostic importance or not?
نویسنده
چکیده
n this issue of the Journal, Fathi et al. (1) describe the value f measuring vasomotor endothelial dysfunction and intima edial thickness of the far wall of the common carotid rtery as predictors of clinical outcome in patients at risk for ardiovascular events. This adds to a growing-but-small list f publications exploring this important theme, but in ontrast to most of the previous literature, the authors uggest that endothelial dysfunction does not add indepenent prognostic information when considered in the context f other test results.

Design of a humanized anti vascular endothelial growth factor nanobody and evaluation of its in vitro function
Objective(s): Nanobodies, the single domain antigen binding fragments of heavy chain-only antibodies occurring naturally in camelid sera, are the smallest intact antigen binding entities. Their minimal size assists in reaching otherwise largely inaccessible regions of antigens. However, their camelid origin raises a possible concern of immunogenicity when used for human therapy. Humanization is...
متن کاملATVB in focus: noninvasive assessment of atherosclerosis--from structure to function.
Endothelial dysfunction is a systemic disorder and a key variable in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and its complications. Current evidence suggests that endothelial status is not determined solely by the individual risk factor burden but rather, may be regarded as an integrated index of all atherogenic and atheroprotective factors present in an individual, including known as well as yet-u...
متن کاملThe prognostic importance of endothelial dysfunction and carotid atheroma burden in patients with coronary artery disease.
OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to determine the relative prognostic importance of noninvasive measures of endothelial function and atheroma burden in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). BACKGROUND Direct measurement of atherosclerosis by carotid ultrasound and endothelial function assessment by brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) have both been shown to predict vascul...
متن کاملEndothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and risk of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease.
BACKGROUND Endothelial function is impaired in coronary artery disease and may contribute to its clinical manifestations. Increased oxidative stress has been linked to impaired endothelial function in atherosclerosis and may play a role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular events. This study was designed to determine whether endothelial dysfunction and vascular oxidative stress have prognostic...
متن کاملارزیابی غلظت سرمی نیتریک اکساید در بیماران مبتلا به سندرم جریان آهسته کرونری
Background & Aims: Coronary slow flow phenomenon (SCF) is normal or near-normal angiographically that is known with delayed passage of contrast in coronary arteries. Etiology of SCF is unknown. Endothelial dysfunction is one of the main factors in the etiology of SCF and vascular endothelium-derived nitric oxide is one of the main biochemical factors in the regulation of vascular tonisity. The ...
